Wow! Wicked: Devils Point Wolves by Eliza Gayle is her second offering in the amazing new Mating Season Collection. Each release is a standalone novella featuring a separate couple and comes complete with their own happiy ever after ending. The dialog is well written, the characters are irresistibly sexy and the story is wild and wicked! In Book One, Wild, we met beautiful twins, Rebel and Faith Harris. Faith travelled to the island of Devils Point to find her sister after Rebel went incommunicado for several days. Rebel works as a stripper at Club Diablo which is owned by handsome werewolf brothers, Damien, Dante and Diego. On her arrival, Faith was attacked and bitten by a rogue werewolf and is now a newly turned wolf herself and coincidentally, just happened to be Dante's true mate. Oh my! Now in Book Two, Rebel won't be satisfied until the rogue wolf is captured and punished and she's determined to be the bait, then she can leave the island and forget all about sexy Dante and the fact that she isn't his one true mate. Unfortunately, Dante won't be happy until he captures Rebel and she becomes his mate. Oh my! The mating moon is shining bright! Will Rebel be able to resist??? I wonder??? No spoilers from me but I will say this.... Beautiful, brave and very stubborn bombshell stripper determined to catch a rogue wolf-check! Handsome, sexy, alpha wolf hell bent on capturing a rebel-check! Danger, drama, a rogue werewolf and a hunter on the loose-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, sweet romance, steamy sex and a mating moon-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

The cover is steamy and beautiful :) I love it and the wolf is gorgeous :)

This is the 2nd book in the series and part of the Mating Season collection. I’m not sure what the author’s recommendation is, but I highly recommend reading the books in order because you will be missing things and character dynamics if you don’t read book one first :) This is an adult series due to the steamy content :)

I really liked the story. This one is about Rebel (Faith’s sister) and Dante (Damien’s brother). Faith and Damien are still my favorites though :) There is plenty of action, drama, and bullets to be thoroughly entertained :) I love Eliza’s writing because I never have to go back to re-read something because I got confused. Her writing uploads images right to your brain and weaves into a fabulous story.

I really like all of the stories in the Mating Season Collection that I have read so far. I recommend this collection to any wolf shifter lover because you will find something to enjoy :)

Mating Moon part 2

This is the second novella in a trilogy featuring the shifters of Devils Point. While technically this can be read as a stand alone it is definitely better to have read the first one. In this book we see more of Rebel and Dante who are trying to hunt the shifter that bit Rebel's twin sister in the last book. They are also both battling their feelings for one another because while Dante is attracted to Rebel, he doesn't think she is his True Mate. With sparks this hot between Rebel and Dante, I can't imagine what they would be like if they were "True Mates!"
This was a great read, with some very steamy scenes, I look forward to seeing Diego's fall in the next installment.

A Helpful Primer on Engaging Culture

After a brief introduction, Ashford demonstrates how views on culture vary. Just as a fish can’t describe water, so do we have difficulty understanding our own view on culture until someone points out distinctions between positions. In Chapter Two, Ashford explains his vision for a theology of culture, following the pattern of the biblical narrative through three movements: Creation, Fall, and Redemption/New Creation. These categories provide the rubric for much of Ashford’s academic work.

In the third chapter, the topic is vocation as it relates to culture. For many, vocation means the work one does to earn wages. However, Ashford’s vision is richer and fuller, encompassing various aspects of life like family, career/work, church, etc. We are called to more than just a career, we are called to honor God in every aspect of our lives. Chapter Four outlines six case studies on engagement with culture, which helps prove Ashford’s position is valid. He uses Augustine of Hippo, Balthasar Hubmaier, Abraham Kuyper, C.S. Lewis, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Francis Schaeffer as examples. Although none of these examples are expounded thoroughly, Ashford gives sufficient information to portray them accurately and to point the readers on to do further investigation for themselves.

Chapters Five through Nine all deal with particular spheres that Christians should seek to influence for Christ. In these five chapters, Ashford discusses engagement with the Arts, Sciences, Politics and the Public Square, Economics and Wealth, and Scholarship and Education. None of these chapters is a final analysis, but they do provide a helpful introduction and a place to begin the process of discovery.

Ashford concludes the book discussion the Christian Mission, which entails living all of life under Christ’s lordship and seeking to help demonstrate his Lordship in all creation. This a grand theme that permeates Scripture and pushes the Church outside her walls and into her communities for the glory of the Lord.

n about 130 pages of content, Ashford manages to provide a solid overview of a broad sweep of Christian thought. Besides the question of the relationship between the Law and the Gospel, there are few questions more significant to Christian theology than how Christians should relate to cultures which are, most often throughout history, not distinctly Christian. Ashford’s book is a beginner’s field guide on the topic.

This is the sort of book I would recommend as a gift as a High School or College graduation gift. It’s the sort of thing I wish I had read earlier in life. It would also be a useful tool for pastors seeking to help expose an inquiring parishioner to meaningful cultural engagement or to help someone break out of a pattern of cultural isolationism.

As Western culture becomes increasingly post-Christian, learning to be a Christian minority will become more and more significant. Ashford’s book will help someone make a beginning step in that direction.

Dr. Ashford, as usual, does a masterful job navigating through discussions that sometimes can get tense. I will be giving a copy of this book to every high school graduate in our churches from now on. It's a great resource to know how to be well prepared for college from a spiritual standpoint.

A diamond to treasure

The value of this book hasn't diminished with the passage of time. It's compelling story of the growth of paleoanthropology in the 20th Century remains unmatched. Johanson's role should be known to most, but this personal relation endures as a landmark for those interested in the development of humanity. He's given us a lucid story of the life and work of the paleoanthropologist both in the field and laboratory. He is candid in assessing other workers and himself in tracing the line of descent from ape-like creatures to modern humans.
He opens with a peerless overview of the key figures in the field, their insights, prejudices, successes and failures. The field was dominated by British research. The small German community of scientists held little challenge, and American researchers were nonexistent. Heady with victories that had left the Victorian Empire firmly established, the British stoutly maintained that intelligent humans were the product of the North European environment. Tropic peoples were torpid and apathetic. The harsher conditions of Northern Europe had forced increased cranial capacity, leading to intelligence. Brain growth, in their view, had preceded human bipedalism. If cranial enlargement was shown to be of British origins, so much the better. The Piltdown find was a prime example of that scenario, nearly universally accepted as fitting into the preconceived assumption.
When a tiny skull found in 1925 in South Africa indicated that a human ancestor walked upright over a million years ago, there was consternation. Modern human roots couldn't be African and bipedalism before intelligence seemed outlandish. The Taung Child, however, couldn't be refuted, increasing the attention to African origins. Louis Leakey led the campaign and his many striking finds captured headlines and brought notoriety. And funding. More importantly, the new discoveries at last made it possible to begin drawing lines of human descent. While the Leakey team disclosures pushed the age of human origins into a more distant past, it was Johanson's discovery of an unusually complete skeleton that rocked the world. Finding ancestral human more than three million years old unseated the Leakey team as the leading paleoanthropological group and catapulted Johanson to the top.
Johanson's account of making the find and his subsequent discoveries makes vivid reading. His outlook is modest enough, admitting to uncommon luck and the support of a talented team. He also shows the value of perseverance in his field. None of this detracts from the science and the struggle he and Tim White endured in presenting Lucy as a likely ancestor to us. The later clash with the Leakey family was disconcerting at a time when some unity was needed to establish the path human evolution has taken. All these circumstances are related without rancour, done in a highly effective homey style. Johanson's respect is deserved, both as a writer and field researcher.
The shining jewel in this account remains the description of a seminar given to Johanson's graduate students by Owen Lovejoy. Lovejoy, an expert in animal locomotion, gives the clearest brief account of the course of human evolution yet offered. In a mere twenty-some pages, he shows how humans departed from other primates in bipedalism, sexual and child- rearing habits leading to modern family and community relationships. If for nothing else, this essay gives this book inestimable value. It remains unmatched, and belongs on the shelf of anyone interested in our origins.

Great Introduction to Paleoanthropology

As a reader who has a sparse knowledge of anthropology, I can say this book was a pleasurable and informative read.
Dr. Johanson divided the book into a prologue and five parts. The prologue describes the events of November 30, 1974, the day Lucy was discovered. The first part covers a brief background to the earliest fossil finds and is invaluable to any reader who is interested in who's who among some of the earliest scientists working on human origins. Part two covers his actual field expeditions to East Africa. During his first field season, Johanson became concerned about financing when his original grant of $43,000 was dwindling away. It is interesting to note, as Johanson describes about anthropology, that science is more than just field work and analysis. There is political, financial, and human relation issues that need to be mastered for the mission to succeed.
I found part three, the analysis of Lucy, to be the most compelling. Johanson includes Le Gros Clark's paper and accompanying illustrations to highlight eight differences between chimpanzee jaws and human jaws. Knowledge of these differences were of immeasurable value in the analysis of an australopithecine jaw. Part four delivers a brief account of how our ancestors began to walk upright. I found this to be interesting but highly speculative. The final section includes drawings of how australopithecus afarensis may have appeared.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone with a desire to know more about human ancestors and how a paleoanthropologist proceeds in uncovering our past.

First Rate!!

This book allows for those readers who know nothing about the archaeological world a glimpse into the past. For those readers, such as myself, I congradulate the author and encourage others to read this book. It is an interesting look into the events leading to the discovery of Humankind's oldest known ancestor, Lucy, and chronicles Dr. Johanson's growth from hot-shot college grad. to experienced field worker, with world renown. As it is from his perspective, it gives a more personable and personal angle to the story as a whole.
