Theodore Millon, Ph.D., D.Sc. is one of the world's leading authorities on personality disorders. Comprehensive and readable

This book provides a fascinating overview of personality. The author describes each trait along a continuum of healthy to disordered which provides a great deal of insight. Although it is written in a scholarly fashion I found it easy to read. Feel I have a much broader and richer understanding of human personality after tackling this text.

In updating my Millon library for the last 15 years, got a good price on what is a very comprehensive text on Millon's own model of personality assessment. Recommended for the graduate level, as it is rather dense, although pretty readable. Perhaps too daunting for undergraduate students, where the 3 text paperback series on his Personalized Psychotherapy Approach is a good inductive, case study way to be introduced to Millon's extremely comprehensive multiple domain-multiple orientation assessment model.

The mystery of Christ: Jenkins has the courage to confront us with historical truth and the result is fascinating

I have to admit I'm still only halfway through this book, and I've read other Jenkins's works because of his standing as a scholar, but this book is a revelation (if the author might pardon the pun). I have been telling people about it because it is so eye-opening and fascinating. He writes and explains with such ease as he merrily bursts bubbles of myth to reveal the depth and complexity of the development of Christian faith. None of the ridiculous mumbo-jumbo of Dan Brown; just the facts. And the facts are quite interesting enough. Can't wait to keep reading. He's not attempting to destroy the great mystery of Jesus Christ or orthodoxy, but calling us to consider we should still stand before that mystery, along with countless others before us and to come, with humility and a desire for the truth that the Great Teacher encouraged us to value because it liberates us. I am going to dare to say the best Jenkins work yet, of all the many.

The Many (False) Faces of Christ

The Many Faces of Christ by Phillip Jenkins is a complicated work. To review his book, a brief review of history is needed. In 325 AD the Emperor Constantine convened the council of Nicaea. While the council did not determine what was and was not authorized (canonical) scripture it did set the stage for the church to exercise authority in determining what was genuine scripture and what scriptures were flawed teaching, heretical, or simply bogus. Of course, not all purported scripture was deemed legitimate (canonical) gospel. Jenkins gives us the stories of those gospels that did not “make the cut.” How some gospels though not strictly canonical were in mainstream use, how others were used in Eastern European and elsewhere but not in Western Europe, and even how parts of the Qur’an have their genesis in non-canonical scripture.

There is no overarching theological point to Jenkins’ work. He just recounts how a certain non-canonical gospel was used during such and such time by such and such people while a different non-canonical gospel was favored, or at least in use, by a different group of believers at a different point in time. In recounting the use of these non-canonical gospels, Jenkins clearly doesn’t like the term “lost gospels” in that non-canonical (aka “lost”) gospels were often in still is use by large number of Christians. However, some gospels, like those discovered in modern times at Nag Hammadi, were truly “lost” to nearly all of Christianity.

Biblical scholars, like Jenkins, pride themselves on being objective, but this scientific objectivity, has it limits. Without a discussion of what is and what is not the inspired word of God (even if written by imperfect man) biblical scholarship is just another branch of history. It would seem reasonable to assert that any supposed gospel written after the Council of Nicaea (three centuries after Christ) would be considered a fraud. Also any purported gospel that deviates too far from established cannon should suspect at well.

Some biblical scholars might consider such canonical bias as the equivalent of religious intolerance. But consider this, let say someone supposedly discovered a “lost” Ian Fleming novel. But in this novel, James Bond is married, doesn’t drink and drives an economy car. We would be safe in saying that such a novel was a fraud. In the interest of scientific objectivity the same should be said of most, if not all, non-canonical gospels. The Many Faces of Christ would be a better book if it delved more into theological legitimacy, but even so it merits four stars.

Practical process-turns vision into reality

Biehl does a masterful job of articlating his process for creating a master plan. We may know where we want to go, or what we would like to accomplish, but have trouble putting together a clear plan that we can communicate with others. It's a quick read, and you'll find yourself crafting your plan as you're reading the book. Great templates for weekly team reports, annual reviews, position focus sheets, and a master planning arrow. If you lead an organization, specifically a ministry related one, you NEED this book.

Must Buy!

Our company bought this book two weeks ago as a guide to develop our "Masterplan". This book lives up to its claim that it can work for any size organization. It gives information on defining roles in organizations, how to define and refine your purpose and masterplan and how to follow through. This book will not only help in our company's ministry on a large scale, but it's already helping me in my division within the company and in my own personal life. This book has more good information than I can mention! I'm buying a copy for myself.

Masterplanning: A Complete Guide for Building a Strategic Plan for Your Business, Church, or Organization

I have used this book and its methods for years. I am now teaching it to others. I bought several copies for others enrolled in my seminar...so they wouldn't have to search for it themselves. Master Planning, and its ARROW methodology, is a fairly simple method of getting the big picture of where an organization stands at any given point of evaluation. Other resources are explained throughout the book to keep an organization on track.

The first time I came into contact with the book, I was obligated by my organization to read part of it. We would be using it as an organization and would be sitting through some strategic planning using this very method. I was not enthused at all, to say the least. However, after going through the material in the book and then in the seminar, I became, in our organization, its greatest fan.

I highly recommend it.

Swedish Modernism is a comprehensive reader analysing the role of modern architecture, city planning and consumption in the construction of the Swedish welfare state. The book draws mainly from the formative phase of the Swedish model, but also on European and American examples, and attempts to highlight the contradictions and complexities of the process of modernisation.

About the Author
Reinhold Martin is an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, Columbia University, and Director of the Temple Hoyne Buell Center for Study of American Architecture, Columbia University. He is also partner in the firm Martin/Baxi Architects, New York.

Penny Sparke is a Pro Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Design History at Kingston University, London. UK

Joan Ockman is Director of the Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. She lives in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania.

Helena Mattsson is an architect and researcher. She is teaching at the School of Architecture/Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. She is a member of the architectural collaboration Testbedstudio Stockholm, as well as of the editorial board of Site magazine.

Sven-Olov Wallenstein teaches philosophy at the University College of S�dert�rn, and architectural theory at the Royal Institute of Technology, both in Stockholm, and is the editor-in-chief of Site.

Francis E. Sparshott (1926-2015) was University Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto. He is the author of numerous books of poetry and philosophy including A Measured Pace: Toward a Philosophical Understanding of the Arts of Dance.

Erudite, Gripping and Fresh Interpretation of Aristotle.

Francis Sparshott is an excellent poet as well as an excellent philosopher, and his command of language and his depth of insight are both highly manifest in this book. Sparshott has given here the best modern overall commentary on Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, itself possibly the greatest of Aristotle's works. In the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle brings the perspective of a great observational biologist to bear on the observation of the human, in order to assess what our natural needs and capacities are, and what we need to do in order to have a fulfilling life. Aristotle's answer is, of course, subtle and complex, but it is summed up in Sparshott's title: we need to take our lives seriously. Sparshott's text demonstrates at every point the depth of insight developed over decades of thinking along with Aristotle (and, of course, along with lots of other philosophers) about these issues of human life. The result is a book that is simultaneously *brilliant* in its bringing together of Aristotle's texts and profound in its commentary on human experience. The first 50 pages are the most mind-blowing, and they should be read carefully by all students of Aristotle, to be sure, and by anybody else studying philosophy. Whenever I teach graduate courses in Aristotle, I assign this book as a companion text, because, (whereas I find that commentaries usually have the effect of lowering the level of initiative that the students take in studying the original books), this book always leads the students to be more probing and more thoughtful in their approach to Aristotle's texts. I recommend it very highly.

By Philosophy of Chess and Golden Age Mysteries.
This book is in itself a work of excellence and practicality. The profound commentary is immensely satisfying for this truth seeker, an example of the virtue Aristotle emphasizes. Beautiful.......
