NICE! It would be easy to leave it at that... but I feel I need to explain myself.

This book is not just educational, but a great comparison of equipment. This information will save photographers thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of research and physically testing light sources. I appreciate that street prices were even shared when discussing different brands and models.

I also enjoyed the comparisons of the modifiers in action. The portraits truly showed what effects we could expect to see. Thank you for including both horizontal and vertical lighting diagrams. Helped get the location of the light and camera positions on both planes.

So many other great things about this insight to the use of speedlights... You need to read it for yourself. Well done!

The Speedlight Studio by Michael Mowbray is a must read for Amateur and Professional Photographers alike. An easy read, full of applicable images and diagrams provides the reader with a complete guide to Flash Photography. For the camera enthusiast the author covers the basics of lighting, provides direction as to what gear to use and the choices you can make with budget in mind. For the professional there is plenty of information within the book to take your flash photography to the next level. Flash modification, Portrait Lighting concepts, Manual vs ETTL, specific lighting for specific looks to name a few. The image examples and diagrams help bring the text to life. Seemingly endless examples of light modifiers and the looks they provide, and examples of finished composites and the lighting used to create them.
I would recommend this book to everyone who loves to take photos, from the beginner to the seasoned professional who wants a complete guide to Flash Photography! 5 Stars!

chock full of intelligent insights

Amidst all the inflated rhetoric that either denounces technology for making music "inauthentic" or celebrates it for creating new postmodern forms of community, Paul Theberge's "Any Sound You Can Imagine" is a welcome oasis of intelligence. Rather than choosing sides in what often becomes a simplistic debate, Theberge provides a balanced account that, uniquely, puts digital instruments in a broad social and historical perspective. This book has much to recommend it, but the high points for me are the last several chapters, in which Theberge formulates a theory of how instruments work not only practically but symbolically, that goes beyond almost any other book on the subject. As such, "Any Sound You Can Imagine" is heady stuff, but it's also accessibly written. Anyone who thinks they know something about electronic music, whether it be techno or the electronic avant garde, should read this book and see how many of their assumptions are left standing at the end.

This is a most important piece of work, and while written at an almost "academic" and scholarly level, is a book every modern musician will find valuable.

A Treasure!

This book is for the serious reader who is looking to learn more about the origins and power of myths in their historical context and how timeless symbols including archetypes are being "rediscovered" from a psychological perspective. For the uninitiated, this is an eye opening book in that Joseph Campbell is able to demonstrate in a masterful way how many of "the patterns and logic of fairy tale and myth correspond to those of dream, [and how] the long discredited chimeras of archaic man have returned dramatically to the foreground of modern consciousness" [page 255].

If you are a curious individual or student of history, then you'll find The Hero With A Thousand Faces to be a fascinating read as the author probes deeply into the origins and significance of mythology from epistemological, ontological, psychological, and teleological perspectives. Whether you are a student of the ancient Egyptians, ancient Greeks, Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Karl Abraham or others, you're sure to find a wealth of valuable information and "perspective" in this book.

A happy outcome is that by reading this book you may glean a glimpse of your own heroes journey. That fact is worth the price of the book alone. It also makes a great gift for anyone who enjoys being reflective and is not fearful of diving into their own psyche and what they might find.

A Must Read!

I wish i had known about this book years ago. I consider it a profound work that i hold to the esteem of a 'sacred' text. Campbell not only demonstrates the commonality of many myths and stories, but also provides the typical progression of the 'hero'. This is a must read for any seeker of expanded awareness. When i began this book i expected a dull look at the commonalities of the world's myths and epic stories. What i found was a map of the path of the embodied soul. Truly a magnificent book.

One Pretty Much Has to Read this Book

This book is The Bible for story structure. But you probably already knew that. Everybody in the world gives this book five stars and raves about how it changed their lives. I gave it four stars because, while it is unquestionably a great book, it can be very dry reading. I like the book, but I can't say that I love it, and I don't know that it is one that I will pull off the shelf on a regular basis. Even so, if you aspire to be a professional storyteller, or you just like to spin yarns, this is one of the books you should read, if for no other reason, so that you can checkmark it off your list.

Interesting but lacking substance...

Last year at the age of 40, I finally discovered that there is a word for the way I've always been...Polyamorous. Until I discovered the word I honestly didn't know that there were so many other souls that find loving and being sexually intimate with more than one person simulateously a natural occurance, and I struggled constantly with feelings of guilt and confusion. Mystic's take on polyamory from a spiritual perspective is right on target for my own experiences, but the book did not really help me learn anything that I didn't already know or feel. If you're looking for a book to educate you about polyamory, this isn't the book. This book seems to be more of a very short summary of Mystic's philosophy of spiritual poly and less about the nuts and bolts of living that lifestyle in a primarily monogamous society.

Awesome book for anyone in any sort of relationship

This book is a short yet significant read. It combines spirtuality with sexuality and relationships in a way that I haven't seen done so well. While the author uses heterosexuality as his frame of reference (since it is the lifestyle he admits to knowing) his writting applies to various forms of relationships. This is a book that people in both polyamorous and monogamous sexual relationships could use. While it does focus on sexual polyamory to an extent, the author does a good job of pointing out how/why we are all polyamorus. I would suggest reading the ethical slut as a way to get an introduction to the "lifestyle" but this would be a great companion to it. I feel it goes a little more in depth into the emotional and spiritual side of things.

Disestablishmentarian

To be a disestablishmentarian means to me, that you challenge the way the world is presented. To say that there is another reality that exists other than the cultural norm. Mystic Life (ML) is a personal friend of mine, and I can honestly say that he lives his life in this manner. His book Spiritual Polyamory is a reflection of this life pattern. ML calls into question the norm of single monogamous relationships, bringing into perspective the idea of love of self, and love of others as a key aspect of human relationships. This book is a treatise on how loving onself leads to a more comfortable love with and for others. That this love may not be bound within the normally accepted confines of a monogamous relationship is going to be challenging for the rigid, moralistic, and unaccepting. It intuitively makes sense, however the task is having the courage to make the change in one's life despite the risk of being ostracized. Spiritual Polyamory makes sense, and is a great way to see one's life from another view, a view that could truly lead you to happiness and fulfillment.
